About Me

Julia Baker is an American artist and activist living in the Netherlands. She brings beauty into the world through the avenues of art, gardening and collective action.

Her artistic endeavours are varied and include hand lettering, painting, photography, paper craft and crochet. As a lesbian, the joyous colors of the rainbow are a common theme in her work. 

Julia holds a Permaculture Design certificate and has been applying permaculture principles to life, community and garden design for more than a decade.

She also has a long history of activism and community organizing, for peace, climate and human rights. To realize a more just world, we need all hands on deck, in the streets and in our homes, workplaces and communities.

Biography

Julia was born and raised in Naples, Florida and later went onto pursue a Bachelor's in Political Science at the University of Florida in Gainesville.

At 22, she moved to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to pursue a Master's in Food Studies from Chatham University. There she founded an intentional community called Open House and served more than 4,000 free meals to the community over the next 7 years. It was one of the many activist pursuits during her time in Pittsburgh.

At 30, she finally achieved a lifelong dream of moving abroad and found a home in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. Inspired by the futuristic and multicultural port city, her artist self was born. She continues to explore her many creative sides and is an active member in the climate movement.
